The age of techonology…and its impact on our eyes.

Using the computer/ laptop/ ipad or phone for more than 3hours a day at a time? Let’s face it, we are in the world of technology, it’s almost impossible not to! By the end of an evening our eyes can feel quite sore/gritty and a little red.

What things can we do to help reduce this:

1.       Using the 20/20/20 rule is a good way of giving yourself a break from the computer and replenish the tear layer in our eyes. So every 20 minutes of work, look away for 20 seconds and blink 20 times.

2.       Keep hydrated. Keeps the blood pumping and helps relubricate the eyes.

3.       Dry eye drops – arterficial tears 3 times a day in both eyes keeps the correct properties in your tear layer and therefore helps with keeping the eyes feeling fresher.

4.       Hot compress and massage over the eyes daily every evening for about 5minutes allows for the glands in the eyelids to open up, producing great quality tears.

5.       Anti reflective glasses and blue light filter can help with comfort when looking at the computer for a long period of time.

6.       Seek help if things are not improving.
